A Better Example

To the laws of God and nature, our Savior added the testimony of His own example. Surely no man ever lived a busier life. He crowded His ministry into three and a half years, yet He always took time to rest. When He told His disciples to come apart into a desert place and rest, He did not mean a place barren of all shrubbery, trees, or grass. He meant a deserted place, a place deserted by the throng. Jesus’ idea of a holiday was to get out of a crowd, not to get into one. He went to a place where grass and trees abounded, but where the throng came not; and when the throng crowded on Him, He fled into the coasts of Tyre. When He could be no longer hid there, He found refuge in the mountains of Cæsarea, Philippi, and from the labor and excitement of His later life, He sought retirement in the quiet home at Bethany at different times. When anyone says that the devil never takes a vacation, we may answer that we follow a better example.
