Christ Seeking the Lost

“I am lost,” said Mr. Whitefield’s brother to the Countess of Huntington. “I am delighted to hear it,” said the Countess. “Oh,” cried he, “what a dreadful thing to say!” “Nay,” said she, “‘for the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost’ (Matt. 18:11Luke 19:10); therefore, I know he is come to save you.” O sinner, it would be unreasonable to despair. The more broken you are, the more ruined you are, the more vile you are in your own esteem, so much the more room is there for the display of infinite mercy and power.
