Go or Send

A young woman who, while poor herself, had many rich, influential friends and relatives, felt that she ought to devote her life to working among the neglected classes in one of our large cities. Her friends tried to turn her from her purpose. They ridiculed her, and told her that she simply wanted to do something sensational. A servant girl in the family where the young woman made her home, heard of it. She was ignorant and poor, but she was a Christian. One night, when her work was done, she went timidly to the young woman’s door and tapped for admission. “I just wanted to tell you to go,” she said simply; “I’ve always wanted to, but I can’t. I hope you will go in my place.” The would-be missionary had been just on the point of giving up, but this message saved her. “Yes, I will go,” she said, joyful tears running down her cheeks. “I will go in your stead, for God will know and I know that it was you who sent me.”
